OUR MISSION
Chariaid International strives to Educate, Inspire, and Empower people in Cameroon by focusing on education, health and community development. Our goal is to provide sustained education, allowing individuals to reach their untapped potential and incite economic growth by becoming the next leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs in their country. All this can be possible if the community is made up of healthy members, who are at the forefront of their own development.
WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
Having worked for and along side other nonprofit organizations in Africa, we have learned from their experiences and upended the classic Western style of philanthropy. In order to revolutionize our approach, we have developed a bold model that will facilitate the achievement of our objectives.
Scholarship not Sponsorship:
Through Chariaide International, you will not find an opportunity to sponsor an individual student in his or her studies. Rather than benefiting the individual students, our educational program creates a hierarchy in our partner schools and a sense of dependency amongst sponsorship recipients. We have established a variety of scholarship funds that benefit a multitude of students. At the primary level, we provide one lump sum scholarship fund, used to lower tuition for the entire student body. Now instead of impacting a few students, we are responsible for providing a discounted education to primary school pupils.
Upon graduation from primary school, students are encouraged to go through our rigorous application process in order to be considered for a secondary school, vocational program, or University scholarship. In order to be considered, applicants not only have to apply, but they must also interview, maintain high grades in all subjects, have perfect attendance, and volunteer with Chariaide International.
With this model, our vision is to make the schools within the communities we work with to become more affordable and to see a marked increase in student enrollment with the shift from sponsorship to scholarship. As well as a drop in youth unemployment through active vocational training and support grants for new business start-ups.
